SOUTH WEST COAST 50
PARTICIPANT AREA

This area of the website is designed for those who are signed up to the 2024 South West Coast 50 Challenge, to help plan and prepare for the event!

WEATHER WARNING & KIT ADVICE

The forecast for the weekend is looking wet & windy. You MUST bring appropriate kit & clothing, as with the combination of rain, strong winds, and relatively low temperatures – you will feel (and get) VERY COLD and will be unable to warm up – so not just your enjoyment of the challenge will be affected, but you will be risking your wellbeing. You must therefore have with you (for the 50 km & 25 km Challenges):

  • A waterproof jacket with a hood (not just a flimsy poncho!) –  which will repel water/ rain exposure over a number of hours, and will protect your body from the wind
  • Walkers especially should also be wearing/ bring with them – waterproof trousers for the same reasons as above!
  • Waterproof trainers/ shoes/boots – plus a spare changes of socks
  • Warmer layers (including a fleece/ warm type jumper) – for when you are at rest stops/ the finish to stop a chill setting in
  • A head torch (if you are taking on the full 50km Challenge)
  • A camel pack/ bottles and water to carry at least 2 litres
  •

Our further advice (for your own comfort) is to also bring :

  • A cap/ or hat to stop water from coming into your eyes (this is more from a comfort perspective)
  • A waterproof phone case/ and additional plastic bags/ bin bags to protect your spare clothing from getting wet
  • A rucksack cover is a good idea also (even a bin bag would do!)  – to stop your backpack from getting wet
  • A small drying towel
  • Spare shoes / dry clothes to change into once you’ve finished the challenge.
