It’s a one of a kind challenge, our Ultra Challenge level of support & hospitality – along a dramatic desert landscape which tests your legs, feet & mental determination across the Saharan Desert. October saw over 130 challengers jet off to take on the event – for the first time since 2019 (pre-pandemic!) and for us as Event Organisers it was an exciting return to an event we love so much.

Amongst the wider team of challengers we had a large team of fundraisers taking on the challenge for the Reverse Rett charity, whom collectively fundraised over £75,000 from the challenge, runners whom were joined by the world renowned Rachid El Morabity (9 time winner of the Marathon des Sable) and many whom took part as an individual, and made life long friends along the way.

The 2 day challenge takes place along a route which runs along the UNESCO world heritage site the Draa Valley, weaving through remote rural villages and vast plains of rocks, sand and gravel. It’s a tough course one which is made all the harder by the hot weather and heat – which at it’s peak reached 38 degrees.

1st time Saharan Challenger John, reflects “It was tough, brutal in places and very hard but that is what I want from a challenge. If it was easy completing it would not mean as much as it does”.

Whilst it’s a tough route, in unfamiliar environments as ever the team spirit & camaraderie which is fostered on such a challenge made it all the more rewarding to be part of, Challenger Sue reflects “A tremendous experience. Lovely people with incredible scenery. One of the best things I have ever done.”
