Challenge Options

Join over 2,000 others and take on some of the UK’s best landscape – from rolling hills divided up by stone walls, farmland and views for miles around – our route through the Yorkshire & Dales countryside is as challenging as it is stunning. Starting & finishing at our basecamp in Pateley Bridge  (Nidderdale Showground) – you can camp with us over the weekend, as we’ve hot food, showers, camping packages & more to make it a weekend to remember!

Full 100 km Continuous

Nidderdale Loop

23 - 24 July 2022

Our Full Challenge is a figure of 8 loop – with the Southern loop towards Ripley Castle for the 1st Half. Its a dramatic route, taking in some challenging climbs, before heading back to our Base Camp at Nidderdale Showground for a well earned rest & meal, before setting out on the 2nd Northern loop. Highlights of the 2nd loop include Gouthwaite Reservoir, Fountains Abbey and that feeling as you step across the 100 km finish line to a huge cheer, medal & glass of fizz! Camping is available on Friday evening (+ Saturday for fast finishers).

100 km & 1820 m

  • Start: Nidderdale Showground
  • Start times: 06:45 – 07:00 for runners, 07:00 – 09:00 for joggers & runners
  • Finish: Nidderdale Showground
  • Finish times: Runners 9 – 16 hrs, joggers 16 – 20 hrs, walkers 20 – 36 hrs

Every 10-15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10-15 km
  • 27 km – picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 50 km – hot meal
  • 75 km – brunch/ lunch
  • 100 km – cooked breakfast/ BBQ
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt

There’s a full range of optional parking & pre or post Challenge shuttle bus transfer services, to make it easy to join & exit – and to provide flexible options for your own planning. These include:

  • Parking at Nidderdale & Ripley Castle
  • Shuttles from Harrogate Station to start

Full Challenge over 2 Days

Nidderdale to Nidderdale

23 & 24 July 2022

The 2 Day Full 100 km Challenge breaks down the route into two halves of 50 km on Day 1 taking on the Southern loop first & finishing back at our basecamp in Nidderdale, and then 50 km on Day 2 – you will get to experience the route in daylight as well as the opportunity to get some rest and sleep overnight. Camp with us at our fully supported Basecamp on both Friday and Saturday night where we will have entertainment, hot food & more.

1st Half Challenge 50 km

Southern Loop

23 July 2022

Start this epic Challenge out from our Basecamp at Nidderdale Showground, and take on the scenic Southern circuit through the Yorkshire Dales, with some iconic geography and historic landscapes, before returning back to our basecamp in Nidderdale for a celebration & hot meal.

2nd Half Challenge 50 km

Northern Loop

24 July 2022

Either join a Full Challengers to support them on their challenge, setting off Saturday evening onwards, or join our main start on Sunday morning from 6:00. This Northern Loop takes in spectacular scenery, with Fountains Abbey being a particular highlight. The route finishes back in Nidderdale, where you will be welcomed in with a huge cheer & medal!

1st Quarter Challenge 27 km

Pateley Bridge to Ripley Castle

23 July 2022

Take on our 1st Quarter Challenge for a day light Ultra which will test your legs & feet whilst rewarding you with fantastic scenery & a hilly route! Finishing at Ripley Castle for a photo finish & BBQ celebratory meal. Bus transfer & parking options make it easy to join / leave.

Pateley Bridge basecamp

Take on our NEW 10 KM looped route starting & finishing at our major Pateley Bridge Ultra Challenge basecamp, taking in parts of the famous Nidderdale Way, passing over Nought Moor, past Glasshouses Dam – and finish on the Six Dales Trail along the River Nidd. It is easy to join & leave with parking & overnight camping options available.
