Across Britain Virtual Challenge

Perfect to launch your 2022 fitness regime, burn off a few of those excess Christmas pounds, and to get in shape for what could be an active year ahead! The Across Britain Virtual Challenge is about crossing the nation on foot, or on your bike – South to North or West to East, and always Coast 2 Coast!

There are 5 route options – from the succinct 125 km ‘England Coast 2 Coast’ which is ideal for the occasional walker to get back into their stride, the 500 km ‘Scotland Coast 2 Coast’ – a real challenge for seasoned trekkers & runners braving the cold, right up to the full 1400 km ‘Great Britain Coast 2 Coast’ which might suit many on 2 wheels and perhaps just a few hardened types on 2 feet with plenty of free time over the next 2 months! Choose your challenge – take it on anywhere, anytime from New Year’s Day onwards throughout Jan & Feb – log your progress manually or automatically – and move across our Virtual Map of Great Britain, whilst sharing your stories online as you head towards the coast.

There are ‘Prize Draws’ for reaching your halfway point by the end of January – and also for all who have crossed their coastal finish line by 28th February. Fundraise for a charity if you wish to (optional) – and there’s a fantastic Across Britain Challenge medal & neck buff.

How it works...

Track your progress online

Once you’ve signed up to your chosen route and whether ‘on foot’ OR ‘on bike’ – you can either ‘link’ up to our Across Britain Challenge Route Map with Strava / or Garmin (so your activities automatically feed through to our online map) OR you can add activity distances manually (so each time it’s logged you’ll progress along your route on the map along with other participants). You have up to the end of February to complete your Coast 2 Coast challenge, you can start any day from 1st January 2022 onwards, and can join at any time up to up to 31st January.

On 2 Feet or on 2 Wheels.

Walk, Jog, Run, or Cycle – Anywhere, Anytime.

125 km

Coast 2 Coast

A classic route following the historic course of Hadrian’s Wall  – starting in Carlisle and finishing on the coast at Tynemouth, east of Newcastle. There are Roman Forts, some sharp ups & downs, and stunning views over the glorious Northumberland landscapes.

275 km

Coast 2 Coast

It’s a Chepstow start on The Severn Estuary – and up through the magical tree lined Wye Valley, and along the historic Offa’s Dyke Path with castles and ancient forts. Past Monmouth, criss-crossing the English Boarder up to Oswestry – and through rolling hills to Prestatyn on the coast.

500 km

Coast 2 Coast

Starting from Edinburgh on the bank of the Firth of Forth – it’s across the mighty bridge and north up to Perth, and on through  the Cairngorms with its frosted peaks. Up to Inverness and then hugging the Moray Firth to the tip of mainland Britain – John O’Groats – where a car park cafe awaits!

825 km

West to East
Coast 2 Coast

A ‘Side to Side’ challenge starting by the famous Land’s End sign, and along the South West Coast Path, Exmoor and on to Bath. North Wessex Downs, The Chilterns, and Cambridge are en route to the most easterly point of Britain – Lowestoft’s low key concreted Ness Point!

1400 km

Great Britain
Coast 2 Coast

An alternative  ‘End to End’ Challenge – south east to north west – and an epic one – perfect for those on 2 wheels to get outdoors and push themselves further! It’s a Dover start, up to London and on through the centre of England all the way up to the tip of Scotland, and the wilds of Cape Wrath.
