It’s a new ‘double marathon’  format – and we’re encouraging as many as possible to take on the ‘full challenge’! From a start in Berwick- Upon-Tweed, in England and just south of the border – the 84 km route heads onto to the Berwickshire Coastal Path up to North Berwick. Marathon (42 km) and 10 mile options also available .

Berwick on Tweed - North Berwick

28-29 August 2027

It’s a new ‘double marathon’  format – and we’re encouraging as many as possible to take on the ‘full challenge’! From a start in Berwick- Upon-Tweed, in England and just south of the border – the 84 km route heads around the historic town and onto to the Berwickshire Coastal Path to Emouth, St Abb’s Head, and then a welcome halfway stop at the marathon distance. Up to Dunbar and inland from the John Muir Country park to the welcome finish line in delightful seaside town of North Berwick. 

84 km & ~1550 metres

  • Start: Berwick Upon Tweed basecamp
  • Start times: 7am for Trailblazerz & other runners, 7.30am – 9.00am for joggers & walkers
  • Finish: North Berwick basecamp
  • Finish times: Runners 7 – 14 hrs, joggers 14 – 18 hrs, walkers 18 – 30 hrs

Every 10 -15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10 -15 km
  • ~21 km – picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 42 km – hot meal
  • ~63 km – picnic brunch/ lunch
  • 84 km – cooked breakfast/hot meal
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt

There’s a full range of optional camping, parking & pre or post Challenge shuttle bus transfer services, to make easy to join & exit – and to provide flexible options for you r own planning. These include:

  • Camping at Berwick upon Tweed basecamp.
  • Parking at Berwick on Tweed and North Berwick.
  • Park your car at the finish in North Berwick & get a optional bus transfer to the Start OR get a post challenge transfer back to the start.
  • Bus transfers from the finish to N Berwick Station

There’s the ULTRA MARCH®category for walkers aiming to do 84 km in less than 20 hours . 8.30am start.

 ULTRA TRAILBLAZERZ® for ambitious runners with an eye on the clock and a ‘time goal’ of sub 11 hrs (male) & 12 hrs (female) for 84 km on this Challenge. 7am start.

Ultra Challenge® 50 km and 100 km events are fully ITRA-certified and officially recognised as UTMB Index races.

Day 1 – Saturday

  • Start: Berwick on Tweed basecamp
  • Start times: 7am for runners, 7am – 9.00am for joggers & walkers
  • Finish: halfway basecamp – 42 km
  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 8 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 15 hrs
  • Overnight: camp with us at halfway (see Bookable Extras) or local B&B / hotel

Day 2 – Sunday

  • Start: Halfway basecamp
  • Start times: 06:00 – 07:0 for all
  • Finish: North Berwick basecamp
  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 8 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 15 hrs

Every 10 -15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10-15 km
  • ~21 km – picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 42 km (half way) – hot meal
  • ~63 km – brunch/ lunch
  • 84 km – hot meal
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt

There’s a range of optional camping, parking & pre or post Challenge shuttle bus transfer services, to make easy to join & exit – and to provide flexible options for your own planning. These include:

  • Camping at Berwick upon Tweed start AND at 42 km halfway basecamp ( to rest!)
  • Parking Berwick upon Tweed start basecamp & at North Berwick finish
  • Park your car at the finish in North Berwick  & get a bus transfer to the Start
  • Bus transfers from the finish (N Berwick) back to Berwick on Tweed start basecamp – and  to local Station

As well as camping at the start on Friday evening -there’s ‘Halfway’ camping at the 42 km basecamp on Saturday.

2 Day Double Marathon

Berwick on Tweed - North Berwick

28 & 29 August 2027

The 2 Day option breaks the 82 km into its 2 ‘halves’- of 42km marathons – so you’ll experience the route and the wonderful countryside in daylight – and get some sleep overnight. You can join our camp at halfway (or local B&B). On Sunday as the sun starts to rise we set out towards North Berwick along the coastline and on to the finish line in North Berwick where a celebration awaits!

With 1,100 metres of climb – this really is a ‘marathon challenge’!

  • Finish: 42 km basecamp near Marly Brae
  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 7 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 16 hrs

  • Start times: Sat 10am for all (or join up with a ‘Double Marathon’ challenger – and 7.0am Sunday 
  • Finish: NorthBerwick basecamp
  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 7 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 14 hrs

Every 10-15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10-15 km
  • 21 km – Picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 42 km finish  – hot meal

The 42 km 2nd half of the Double Marathon course – and somewhat less hilly than the 1st half. A start near Marly Brae at the basecamp – and its along the stunning coastal path up to Dunbar and inland from the John Muir Country park to the welcome finish line in delightful seaside town of North Berwick.

10 miles & 100 metres

  • Start: North Berwick basecamp
  • Start times: 10am Sunday
  • Finish: North Berwick basecamp
  • Snacks & drinks at halfway (5 miles)
  • Finish  – hot meal
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt
