6/7 Sept 2025 - Registration Open

A seaside start on Saturday morning, you’ll Walk, Jog, or Run 100 km along the coastal path, over the South Downs Way through day & night (for some) on this 24+ hour challenge all the way to Arundel. Or perhaps take on either ‘Half’ ~57 km (1st ) or 43 km (2nd) Challenge and start or finish at Brighton – alternatively, there’s a 25 km Quarter option from Eastbourne over the famous Seven Sisters. The full route goes through stunning scenery, with a Brighton half way point,  and the undulating path will test you – but will be incredibly rewarding.

Full 100 km Continuous

Eastbourne to Arundel

6 - 7 Sept 2025

Starting from sunny Eastbourne, over the magnificent Seven Sisters, onto Cuckmere Haven, and over the South Downs all the way to historic Arundel with view of its castle. This is a tough route with almost ~2,100m of climbing across the full 100km – but you will be rewarded with incredible views as you reach the top of these climbs.

~100 km & ~2100 m

  • Start: Eastbourne
  • Start times: 7am for runners, 7am – 9am for joggers & walkers
  • Finish: Arundel, W. Sussex
  • Finish times: Runners 9 – 16 hrs, joggers 16 – 20 hrs, walkers 20 – 36 hrs

Every 10-15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10-15 km
  • 23 km – picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 55 km – hot meal
  • 80 km – brunch/ lunch
  • 100 km – cooked breakfast/hot meal
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt

There’s a full range of optional parking & pre or post Challenge shuttle bus transfer services, to make easy to join & exit – and to provide flexible options for you r own planning. These include:

  • Parking at Eastbourne & Alfriston
  • Shuttles from Eastbourne Station to start
  • Bus transfer back to  Eastbourne or Arundel Station

Up for a NEW Style of Ultra Challenge?

Many who run & jog can crack the 24 hr/100km target. However, an ‘Ultra March’ is about WALKING at a brisk & consistent pace with like minded challengers to achieve it – a bit like a march! – but taking in the great rest stops & services of the South Coast Ultra Challenge!

  • Participants opt in to the Ultra March category
  • Up to 300 will set off together as a big Ultra March group.
  • Single Start Time – 10.00am Saturday.
  • FREE Ultra March T shirt & headband picked up ‘on-the-day’.
  • Ultra March ‘Pacers’ set min. pace (with ‘sensible’ rest stop time).
  • Special Finishers Medal & Certificate .
  • ‘Hall of Fame’ on the Ultra Challenge website (optional!).

 

THE RULES:

Over & above the general Ultra Challenge Rules – with an Ultra March it’s:

  • STRICTLY WALKING ONLY (no jogging / running)
  • Stage times will be ‘checked’ to ensure the above.
  • You must complete 100km is sub 24 hours to qualify for special medal & certificate.
  • If you are ‘outside’ of the 24 hr target – you still celebrate with a conventional ‘Ultra Challenge medal / certificate.

  • Start: Eastbourne
  • Start times: 7am for runners, 7am-9am for joggers & walkers
  • Finish: Hove (57 km)
  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 8 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 16 hrs
  • Overnight: local B&B / Hotel

 

Day 2 – 7 Sept 2025

  • Start: Hove
  • Start times: 06:00 – 06:30 for all
  • Finish: Arundel (43 km)
  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 8 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 16 hrs

Every 10-15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10-15 km
  • 23 km – picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 55 km – hot meal
  • 80 km – brunch/ lunch
  • 100 km – hot meal
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt

There’s a full range of optional parking & pre or post Challenge shuttle bus transfer services, to make easy to join & exit – and to provide flexible options for you r own planning. These include:

Full Challenge over 2 Days

Eastbourne - Hove - Arundel

6 & 7 Sept 2025

The 2 Day Full 100 km Challenge breaks down the route into two halves of 57 km on Day 1 and then 43 km on Day 2 – you will get to experience the route in daylight as well as the opportunity to get some rest and sleep overnight. Starting from sunny Eastbourne, over the magnificent Seven Sisters, onto Cuckmere Haven, and over the South Downs all the way to hove and then historic Arundel with view of its castle. 1st Half Challenge 57 km

Eastbourne to Hove

6 Sat Sept 2025

The 1st Half South Coast Challenge is a tough 57 km with ~1250 m of climb – setting out from Eastbourne, you will make your way to the coastline and over the Seven Sisters. After some time at Cuckmere Haven, you’ll make your way over the South Downs and finally descent into hove via Brighton’s promenade.

  • Finish times: Runners 4 – 8 hrs, joggers 7 – 10 hrs, walkers 10 – 16 hrs

  • Snacks & drinks – every 10-15 km
  • 25 km – picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • 45 km – finishers meal
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt

  • Bus transfer back to Arundel Station then a short train back to Hove

2nd Half Challenge 43 km

Hove to Arundel

6 or 7 Sept 2025

If you are looking to support someone taking on the Full Challenge you can join them on the route from 5pm Saturday onwards, or take on the 2nd Half Challenge from 6am on Sunday for a scenic ‘marathon+’ adventure across the South Downs towards Arundel.

1st Quarter Challenge 25 km

Eastbourne to Alfriston

Sat 6 Sept 2025

The 1st Quarter South Coast Challenge is a 25 km with ~660 m of climb – setting out from Eastbourne, you will make your way to the coastline and over the Seven Sisters through Cuckemere Haven, finishing up at Alfriston.

~25 km & ~660 m

  • Start: Eastbourne
  • Start times: 7am for runners, 8:30 – 9:30am for joggers & walkers
  • Finish: Alfriston, East Sussex
  • Finish times: Runners 2 – 3 hrs, joggers 3 – 5 hrs, walkers 4 – 7 hrs

Every 10-15km under marquees with support – toilets, massage, changing rooms, medics, rest areas, hot drinks, water & snacks & much more. 

  • 11 km – snacks & drinks
  • 25 km – Picnic lunch & fizzy drinks
  • Finish – glass of fizz, medal & t-shirt
