Your Challenge
Your Way!

Top quality endurance style events to take on at your pace, for a wide range of fitness levels, ages & experience. Join as a team of any size or as an individual, and support your favourite charity. You’ll enjoy wonderful British scenery, get full support all the way so you push yourself further, and with the camaraderie, spirit & determination – there’s an amazing sense of achievement at the finish line! With 16 events & up to 5 distance options, there’s an Ultra Challenge® for you!

YOUR CHALLENGE,  YOUR WAY, AT YOUR PACE!

Most choose to Walk at a pace that suits them; many ‘Jog’ so they might run some bits & also walk sections; at the front ‘Runners’ may be stepping up from a marathon distance to a fully supported ‘ultra’ distance, or testing themselves against the clock on the trails.

* Note4 of the events are ‘Walking / Trekking’ only.

A ‘continuous’ 100 km full ultra is quite tough, but is absolutely achievable with good preparation, the famous Ultra Challenge® support teams & rest stops stocked with plenty of food & drink. OR – there’s a 2 Day 100 km ‘Daylight’ option with half way camping as a great alternative.

There’s also a new 75 km 3/4 challenge option on some events, alongside a fantastic range of testing single day 50 km ‘Half’ challenges, scenic 25 km ‘Quarter’ challenges, and even a few 10 km / mile ‘taster’ options.

* Minimum age rules per distance apply.

It only takes 2 to make a Team – but the more the merrier! A Team of friends, family, or work colleagues, can motivate & support each other, whilst sharing an unforgettable adventure together, and with a great reason to celebrate afterwards!

Teams can do the same, or a mix of challenge distances, and sign up with the same or a mix of fundraising options. Individuals will meet many new friends en route – and  the experienced Ultra Challenge® Support Team looks after everyone!

An Ultra Challenge® is a special journey. We’ll help you prepare with an App, online guides, forums, and training material. On the day there are camping options, shuttle busses, a warm up & noisy send off, a fully signed route, and chip timing.

There are marquee rest stops every 12.5 km or so – with a fantastic range of food & drink, alongside expert safety, medical & welfare teams – which enable you to go further on an Ultra Challenge®

An Ultra Challenge® is a personal journey, and the finish line is a celebration, and often quite emotional for many. You’ll get a big cheer, a well earned high quality medal, a glass of fizz to toast your success, a visit to the massage tent, and a welcome finishers meal.

Memories will be long lasting – maybe personal goals redefined – and there’s a great sense of achievement that, once aches & pains subside, will leave you wanting another challenge!

There are 3 ways to sign up to an Ultra Challenge® and support your favourite charity by fundraising & sponsorship. As these are tough events, you’ll be amazed at how much you can raise, as friends, family, & colleagues will recognise & appreciate the nature of  your endeavours!

1. FULL SPONSORSHIP – you pay a small Reg Fee online & Fundraise to a minimum target – with 50% due 3 weeks prior to the event (the Charity then pays for your Challenge place).

  – EG for a 50 km challenge, £30 Reg Fee & £360 Fundraising

* NOTE – sign up with this option via this Partner Charity webpage – and you get 50% OFF the normal Reg Fees!

2. MIXED FUNDING – you pay half the event place & also fundraise with a lower target – 50% due 3 weeks prior to the event (the Charity covers the balance of your place cost).

  – EG for a 50 km challenge, £75 Reg Fee & £225 Fundraising

3. OWN PLACE FUNDRAISING – you pay the full cost of your event place & also fundraise whatever you can for your Charity. NO targets or deadlines & NO event place cost for your Charity!

– EG for a 50 km challenge, £139 Fee & raise what you can!

** WITH ALL THE ABOVE OPTIONS – REG FEES & FUNDRAISING TARGETS VARY BY CHOSEN DISTANCE

FAQ's

You must be 18 or over (on the day of the event) if taking on a Full Challenge (~100km) or 3/4 Challenge (~75km); 16+ and accompanied by an adult if taking on a Half Challenge (~50km ), 14+ and accompanied by an adult if taking on a Quarter Challenge (~25km) or Marathon); for a  Half Marathon aged 12+ and accompanied by an adult; and finally 8+ & accompanied by an adult for a 10km/mile Challenge.

Under 18s taking part must be signed up by someone over 18.

There’s no denying it – 50km to 100km challenges are tough. It will be physically & emotionally demanding! You will have to combat fatigue and tiring limbs – so will need to prepare well – and should read the training advice (in the App). The more comfortable you are with walking long distances for sustained periods – the more comfortable you will be on the challenge itself.

You should also practice walking at night – at similar times to those projected on the schedule – to get your body used to the sensation of walking when it’s normally sleeping and recovering!

A training plan is in the Participant’s Area of the website – to assist in your preparation. We also organise regular training walks to get you fitness levels up, as well as to give you the experience which will really help you to complete the challenge!

To run 100km is more than a double marathon – and 50km is a ‘marathon plus’ distance – often across difficult and varied terrain. This is no road marathon – and the running category of the challenge is reserved for only those who are attempting the 100km challenge in under 16 hours – and the 50km in under 7 hours.

The full support we provide on our challenges for runners means that if you have previously run other marathons and now looking to step up your distance to something longer – this is the perfect event to support your challenge!

If however you would like to run and jog (and perhaps walk too!) some of the challenge then you enter into the challenge as a walker and attempt the challenge in that category.

A Team is a great way of taking on an Ultra Challenge – with perhaps all fundraising for the same special charity.  Teams can be of any size – and can do the same or a mix of distances & fundraising options if they choose to. We ensure that ‘Teams’ are assigned the same start wave (where distance/challenge option allows), and your team name will be printed onto your bib.

Whilst you are signing up and registering for your challenge – in the TEAM INFO section (towards the end of the registration questions), you will be asked if you would like to ‘Join a team’ or ‘Create a team’.

If selecting to create a team, you will be asked to create a Team Name and Password. Subsequent team members can then register and select to join your team, and will need to provide the team password in order to join it.

Yes – as long as you are fundraising for the same charity, you can create a team fundraising page on Just Giving (we recommend letting your charity know this is how you will be fundraising together). However, please be advised that the minimum fundraising targets remain per person (not per team), so you will need to reach the combined total fundraising amount on your page for your group.

NO – If you are entering on a Charity Full Sponsorship or Mixed Funding place – you must only select one charity for your fundraising.  This is because your charity will be paying for a portion of your place on the event (out of the fundraising that you generate). If you wish to also fundraise for another charity, you can do so on your own terms but only as long as you reach the minimum fundraising target your first/prime charity.

If you join as a ‘Own Place Fundraising’ however, you have flexibility on who you fundraise for – with no targets or deadlines.

You’ll receive a ‘transaction receipt’ (via email) along with a Confirmation Email welcoming you, detailing the next steps to set up a fundraising page,  the timelines you need to be aware of, and how to find all the info you’ll nee (there is an App for each Challenge).

NOTE If you don’t receive this within 12 hours, please check your spam/junk mail folders!

We will pass your details over to your charity – and you can expect to hear from them within 14 days. If for some reason you do not hear from your charity after this time, please contact them directly.

The ‘Confirmation Email’ you receive upon registering for a Challenge – will contain a link to set up an online Just Giving page – and once set up, you can start your fundraising by sharing your page online with your friends & family.

Follow the instructions you received when you signed up to the challenge!

Remember – only 50% of the applicable fundraising target has to be with the charity 3 weeks prior to the event – so you’ve got time after the challenge to keep on fundraising!

Speak to your charity directly – they will be able to offer you support and help to reach your fundraising target.

However, if you don’t reach the target and the charity declines your place – we will be in touch with you with alternative options – you can always change to a Self-Funding place (Own place Fundraising) or Mixed Funding – to still take part in the challenge.

We’ve a full kit list on the challenge App.

The kit lists we’ve provided are spilt up by ‘walkers’ & ‘runners’ and are only a guideline for what to bring and wear, your own experience training and weather on the day will play an important factor into what you will require.

There will be a baggage transfer service (at an extra charge) from the start to the finish line for a single piece of baggage  – this is bookable on event day. Those taking on 100km can also get their baggage taken to halfway, use any items they need (eg a change of, or extra clothes) , and then onto the finish. Participants who retire from the challenge will be responsible for claiming their baggage at the finish line.

Registered Runners will have an extra baggage service – where you will be able to access your bags at the half-way mid point on the challenge should you not wish to run with your bags.

Once you’ve signed up to your chosen Challenge, we advise you join our Facebook group ‘The Ultra Challenge Club’ where you can meet & interact with fellow challengers. It’s a great way to ask relevant questions, and learn from the experience of others.

NO – we do not allow dogs to take part in the challenge as we cannot cater for them along the route, and the rest stops can be very busy, and not all Challengers will be comfortable with them in close proximity. We do however think dogs make for great training companions!

If you unfortunately have to drop out of your challenge, you will need to do so at the nearest Rest Stop if possible, and alert the event staff, who will ‘log’ you out of the event – and explain the transport / exit options.

Route maps are available online & via the event App before & during the event – marked with rest-stops & distances.

The route will also be clearly and fully signed with pink directional arrows and the night time stages will be supplemented with reflective tape and glow sticks – meaning you should never have to worry about finding your way and you can just concentrate on the Challenge!

You can book your camping, shuttle transfers and parking on the event’s specific bookable extras page on the Ultra Challenge Website – and / or via the event App (which you will get details of in the Confirmation E mail when you register on to an event).

There are options to: cancel your place, defer to next year, change to another event, change distance, or change fundraising option. A fee or charge will be applicable (which varies relative to the time out from the event you’re registered on to) – and all changes are subject to the Ultra Challenge Terms & Conditions and Cancellation Policy (see below).
